The Joel DeBellefeuille Foundation Supports St. Monica’s Church Fundraiser and Advocates for Community Solutions

Montreal, November 26, 2024 – On Sunday, November 24th, the NDG community came together for a powerful evening of music and solidarity to support St. Monica’s Church. The benefit concert, attended by approximately 550 people, was organized to raise funds for the church, which has been struggling financially due to the impact of recent changes on Terrebonne Street, including new bike paths and a one-way system. These changes have made it difficult for the church to host significant events like weddings and funerals, putting its future at risk. The Joel DeBellefeuille Foundation Inc. was proud to be a key contributor to the event, helping secure Freddie James and the Freddie James Project as the evening’s featured performers. Known for their vibrant energy and unmatched talent, the group inspired the crowd, getting attendees on their feet and creating a memorable experience for all. The concert also featured other talented artists who donated their time to this meaningful cause, underscoring the collective effort to support St. Monica’s Church. This marks the second significant contribution by The Joel DeBellefeuille Foundation Inc. to the NDG community since its inception. Earlier this year, the Foundation donated 100 whole frozen turkeys to local residents in need for Thanksgiving, further demonstrating its commitment to supporting the borough and its residents.

Joel DeBellefeuille, founder of the Foundation, remarked:
"This event was a testament to the strength of the NDG community and its commitment to preserving vital spaces like St. Monica’s. While we’re thrilled to have supported this initiative, it’s crucial that city council listens to residents and works toward solutions that balance community needs with urban development. Institutions like St. Monica’s shouldn’t have to rely solely on community-driven efforts to stay afloat."
The Foundation’s involvement highlights its dedication to strengthening communities and addressing issues that matter most to residents. The event’s success demonstrates the urgent need for collaborative solutions to ensure the long-term viability of cultural and spiritual spaces like St. Monica’s Church.
